Jobs in the Primary Industry
Logging:
Jobs within logging:
Buckers -
Buckers are responsible for cutting felled trees into logs.
Lumberjacks -
Lumberjacks are responsible for harvesting trees and transporting them back to be processed.
Skidder Operators -
Skidder Operators are responsible for running skidder machines. Skidders are a type of heavy vehicle used in logging operations for bringing felled trees out of the logging area.

Where does logging usually occur?
Logging operations are located in forests which are highly populated with trees.
China, Russia, Canada, USA, Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand, Burma, India and Papua New Guinea are major countries that logging occurs in.
Different types of logging:
Clearcutting -
Clearcutting is the process of cutting down all the trees in one specific land area.
Selection Cutting -
Selection cutting is the process of cutting down trees that were specifically selected like only old trees would be cut down.
How does logging affect the economy?
Logs can be made into wood where wood is a very important material in nearly every industry. Wood could be made into furniture, tools, used for structural buildings, and everything we use in our daily lives. If a country is rich in trees, logging those trees and converting them into wood would largely increase its economy as the wood could be processed to items which can sell. The country could also export the wood to other countries which would generate income and would increase their revenue.
How does logging affect the environment?
Logging would cause soil erosion and can cause the soil to flow down into nearby rivers which leads to algae bloom in the rivers and death of aquatic species as they lose oxygen to the algae. Logging would cause less trees available to convert the carbon dioxide in the air into oxygen for humans which mean logging will desrupt the air we breathe in. Logging also destroys the wildlife that used to live in forests which loses their biodiversity in the environment.
Mining:
Jobs within mining:
Driller -
Drillers are responsible to set up and operate drilling equipment to drill holes for mineral exploration.
Mining Engineer -
Mining engineers are responsible for ensuring that mines are safe and are efficiently developing throughout their operations. Mining engineers have to have understanding of the structues on their surrounding environment, technical knowledge and good management skills.
Minerals Surveyor -
Mineral surveyors are responsible for managing the use and value and exploration of minerals. They prepare surveys that determine the economic viability and take environmental effects into account.

Where does mining usually occur?
Mining operations usually occur in open areas where it is rich in minerals such as gold, iron, copper, diamond, coal, or oil. Africa is a country which is rich in gold and is their main mining mineral.
How does mining affect the environment?
Mining minerals from the ground would cause soil erosion as well as forming sinkholes on the ground. Mining would also contaminate the soil and surrounding waters with chemicals that were used during the mining operation.
